Good Day
In our ever-never-ending cycle of piling bills I have decided to just work as much as possible until we're out so we can have a life. I took the night shift last night meaning I had to work a double. No problem, although while taking care of my bike trouble I got drunk.
My bike has been continuously getting a flat tire. I ride to work and lock it and when I leave work, I arrive to a flat tire. This in a time where we're trying to get caught up on bills.
So Tim showed up to work and I told him what happened and he said he'd get a tube for me since he had nothing to do. Dice! I gave him money and he came back to say his friend was working and gave him the tube. Excited, I thought about my after-work options. I decided to take the bus home and fix it myself.
I got home, showered, ate, and went to fix it. I took the wheel off, took the tube out (after trying to inflate it only to realize there was a puncture) and checked the tire inside and out and the rim to see if there were any shards or such. I replaced the tube and pumped the tire up and replaced it and put my bike up. Then the tire blew...just standing there. I took the tire apart again and found the puncture. I saw the puncture and compared it to the other one and it was in the exact same place. I then checked the rim (sinced the puncture was on the inner part of the tube). It was fine except for the rubber liner of the rim had a hole over the hole where the spoke was connected to the rim. I didn't feel sharpness but knew I needed to get stuff.
I drove to TREK and asked for a tube and inquired about stuff. The ole does pinch the tube and can puncture it which explained a lot. I ended up also getting a new tire to get me to a point where I have money to get the better urban one and a cloth-adhesive tape to line the rim. Sincee I'd now be spending the evening fixing my bike instead of going to the coffee shop and reading I figured I'd get some drinks. I bought some things and came back to the sweltering, humid garage - which later cooled down tremendously.
Jeanne told me the next morning that she came in the room and one thing she did was tell me that I almost fell on Ayana. I said she should take a nap. She responded, "That doesn't even make sense!" Which, in the context of the conversation was a complete non-sequitor, I responded, "How does that not make sense? You know what a nap is."
So I rode to work and my brain couldn't catch up with my body. I ended up getting a kombucha which still didn't work. All day I had been craving a burger and fries and wanted to get enough tips to do so. We did. I also was able to convince Andrew to take Ady's shift so he could also work a double and we could ride home together. So we went to the Upstream for a medium-rare burger and fries and ran into Bryan Byrd there.
We got back to work it was slow and I kept wishing for the busyness. I was feeling fine and ready to go and we did get busy and made enough tips for food and my Wednesday New York Times.
Andrew got stuff for the food truck guys so we had sandwiches waiting for us which we tipped for. Before that, we (Megan, Priscilla, and I) took the trash to the dumpster. A dude approached us as we approached the alley. He asked where Fontanelle Blvd is and I told him it's a long ways away. We seemed disappointed and messed up and kept following us. I kept looking towards his hands to see if he produced anything. As we approached the dumpster I told him he should go around the corning as there were lots of people and they could answer his question about how to get there. He then reached for somethign and pulled a brown bag out and I was trying to make out the shape to see if it were a knife or gun, but it was just a pint of liquor. He poured a capful for himself and asked if there were any bars open. I told, literally, right around the corner are tons and we turned to go back and he followed still saying creepy to which I kept waiting for him to ask us for our money.
At the beginning of the alley we turned toward the shop and he actually left and we met Andrew at the truck. I got the super-delicious vegetarian sandwich on a buttered and grilled focacia bread. Had baby asparagus, roasted red peppers,m portabella mushrooms, and spinach.
We also got a sneak-peak on their fried ball thing. They have a reuben one but this one is a roasted lamb-shank, rubbed with a radish green pesto and tomato confit served with, basically, a tzatziki sauce. Amazing.
As we were getting ready to part, I looked up and saw Andrew (guy from Olympia Cycle) getting his food and said hey and talked. Me and other Andrew started walking to our bikes and Olympica Andrew pulled up and said he'd ride with us.
The weather was nice and there was no traffic and was an amazing ride. Olympia Andrew noticed a noise with my crank-deal and told me to stop by the shop on Thursday and he'd tune it up.
The rest of the ride was so peaceful and enjoyable. I miss riding home at night. We all talked about riding and the trail and stuff; it was nice. The trail had a lot of bunnies and a possum. I was hoping the possum wouldn't get too startled and jump and attack me.
I ended the ride as I pulled to the garage exactly as 7-Seconds live "99 Red Balloons" ended with his dumb-ass hardcore fortune cookie sign off. Came in, showered, and watched Monday's "Daily Show."
Half way through Dick Cheney's book. If the first two chapters (going into it open-minded) were subtle hints of justification of character and decisions, the one about the Iran-Contra affair and his criticism slash moral justification of Oliver North's decisions and what they were based on was ridiculous. I can't wait to see what's ahead. Too much current political stuff to talk about but the Wisconsin thing...people like Ben Weasel did that and hopefully it doesn't affect the national election. It still sucks that the amount of money put in actually affects outcomes. I don't watch ads and network news and just read about shit and feel smart enough to be educated enough to make my own decision. And Bloomburg...that epitomizes everything I hate about our nation and health. Rather than confront the problem and educate, they take things they feel is the problem and regulate that. For one thing, like organic lemonade sweetened with honey is part of the banned because the wording says, "Anything sweetened." For one thing, that may work towards the obesity problem (if other high caloric things weren't available and still Americans eat unhealthy), but the part that comes with education is, natural fruit juices are just as bad if not worse than soda. Since there's no fiber in juices, there's nothing to help break down the sucrose, so the pancreas has to work at that and that also leads to type-2 diabetes. We need to promote nutritional education and cooking to people and that's the main thing. And why not target the corporations and lobbyists who made Americans this dumb and dependent on their fake stuff. I like things like the "Throw-back" sodas where they promote "real sugar. real taste." It just admits to their shitty product; saying like, "remember when we cared about quality and you?"
